Half-court Singles


 

Tactical Problem: Returning to “base position” after every shot made

Skill development: Lateral and frontal movement, Identification of the area that opponent can be                 

                             expected to make a return to

 


Game/Task:

Half-court Singles

 

Conditions:

  • students use only half of a full size badminton court
  • students are to return to a base position after each shot
  • play is initiated by any means necessary ie. throw-ins, scoops or contacts with the racquet (preferrable)

                       

Diagram: 
 
    Students participate in a half-court game allowing for two seperate games per court.                                   

 

Organizational Points: 

  • students are in groups of 2
  • after instructions are given and clear students return to their courts and begin play
  • students are to only use the half-court

Teaching Points: 

Ø      Stay low and on your toes

Ø      depending on where your opponent has to play the shuttle from adjust your base position

Ø      Take a base position in the center of where your opponent can be expected to make a return (versus the center of the court)
